Scope of the assignment 

Aligning business processes with a new ERP system.  A pilot European SAP implementation programme in Denmark failed to realise the benefits identified in the Business Case.  Many post-implementation issues remained resulting in a large backlog of work and user dissatisfaction.

This high profile global project needed to succeed before further SAP rollouts could take place.  Catalise were tasked with stabilisation of this key business project with limited user resource availability. 

The core of the project was focussing on the alignment of DHL business processes with the new ERP system in a shared service environment.  A number of key projects were implemented at the same time: A finance shared service centre was created to support DHL’s 3 subsidiary in Denmark, IT services were moved to Prague and a new ERP system was implemented.  The three businesses were not able to reply on the accuracy of the accounting records generated from the ERP system. Catalise were asked to recover the initial failed SAP implementation.

Process improvement; Business integration with change management; Clarify ownership of process; Re-organisation of Finance department; A stable integrated system that users could rely on; Improve data quality with accurate P&L reports; Update procedures; Elimination of duplication and manual intervention.  

Approach used 

Document business and IT process in workshop environment with key stakeholder to identify problem areas and document all interfaces issues. Developed one team approach with users, project and IT staff all working in co-ordinated manner.  Listening to end users to identify real issues faced. 

Outcomes of the assignment 

A working ERP system with business process aligned with the new IT environment. User trained, changed front office process, and redevelopment of middleware.
